The students of Classes 8 & 9 went on an educational trip from 30th November to 2nd December 2019. It was a six-hour bus journey from Kolkata to Bishnupur. After having lunch, the students visited the famous terracotta temples of Bishnupur, namely Rasmancha, Shyam Rai Temple, Madan Mohan temple and Radha Shyam temple. The tour guide provided a detailed explanation of the architecture of the temples. At the local market, the Santhal women of Bishnupur were dancing to the tune of the folk songs. Seeing them our enthusiastic students decided to join them in the dances. After visiting the market, the students went back to the hotel and rested. In the evening students danced to foot-tapping tunes and enjoyed themselves.
On the next day, the students woke up at 5 o’clock and had a warm-up session till 5:30 a.m. They then visited a village which specializes in making terracotta artefacts. Then they visited Bikna village in Bankura. There everyone went to a national award winner’s place to see the handicrafts. After this small groups of students went into narrow lanes to see the making of terracotta horses using the potter’s wheel. After this, they were taken to a Baluchari saree weaving unit. One of the best memories of the trip for all was the lighting of lanterns after dinner which was released in the garden. According to the students, the trip was a learning experience and they hope to go for several such trips in the future.
