December 17, 2017- “What makes something special is not just what you have to gain, but what you feel there is to lose.”– Andre Agassi. Apart from commemorating victories, sports meets also aim at imparting lessons on sportsman spirit and camaraderie to children. Indus Valley World School organized its Annual Sports Meet 2017-18 on the 17th of December at the Gitanjali Stadium upholding this aspect of sporting events. The meet was flagged off by the school march past led by the school head boy and head girl. It was a magnificent display of discipline, coordination and impeccable synchronization of the squads of the four different houses.
Shri Kalyan Mukhopadhyay-IPS Deputy Commissioner of Police-South East Division was the Chief Guest of the ceremony and Shri. Surya Pratap Yadav-IPS Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic (South) was the Guest of Honour. The chief guest hoisted the school flag signalling the start of the Sports Meet. The oath was then taken by the sports captain of Grade X and the students solemnly pledged to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship. The Chief Guest declared the meet open after releasing house colour balloons and white doves as a sign of peace. This was followed by the lighting of the Olympic torch by the Chief Guest. A colourful opening dance preceded the track and field events which were interspersed by a boys’ drill, yoga drill and girls’ drill respectively. The day was filled with exciting victories and near misses for all the houses.
After the students’ events the parents also participated enthusiastically in the events scheduled for them. The trophy for the leading house was bagged by Indus house. Rahul Guha of class XII Science was adjudged the Athlete of the Year. The day ended on a cheerful note, heralding the year 2018, also filled with promises for all the young sports enthusiasts.
