Alpona is a traditional, ritualistic floor drawing, popular in Bengal and continues to be an integral part of all celebrations. To commemorate the World Heritage Day, the teachers of Grades 4 and 5 discussed this wonderful art form with the students. They were told that the traditional Bengali alpona is white in colour and fashioned by women into various geometrical or freehand motifs of flowers, trees, animals, humans, etc. The art and craft teachers then helped the children create beautiful alpona motifs in colourful sheets of paper using white pastel pencils. The students had an amazing time creating these glorious designs.
