CONNECTING CIVILIZATIONS WITH SOHINIMOKSHA & DR. MARCUS SCHMIDT

05th August 2019

A musical treat was arranged for the students of Classes 7 and 8 of Indus Valley World School on 1st August 2019. The morning was presented by Ms.Sohini Roy Chowdhury Dasgupta as a part of her ‘Connecting Civilizations’ project. An accomplished Bharatnatyam dancer herself, she brought Dr. Marcus Schmidt, a multi-instrumentalist from Germany who is a maestro on the guitar and the sitar to the school. Our guest of honour was Ms. Nandita Pal Choudhury. Dr. Schmidt is a Ph.D in Ethnomusicology and learnt the guitar from the age of seven. A chance encounter with a sitarist led him on his musical journey to India and his meeting his guru, Late Subrata Roy Chowdhury with whom he trained till his demise in 2017. It was an enthralling morning for those present in the audience as Dr. Schmidt endeared himself to one and all with his magical music. He even jammed with one of our students Rohosen Bhattacharya, who is an ace beat boxer. The programme ended with an interactive session with the artist as he answered all their questions with a lot of warmth and patience. The students and teachers were enriched with this wonderful presentation.
